Don't update the driver unnecessarily
Printer manufacturers recommend updating the printer driver regularly or even automatically. The justification is that the latest versions of the components get better performance, i.e. the device is faster. In an ideal world, this is certainly the case, but practice is quite different. New software versions contain "bugs", i.e. errors that may prevent the printer from working completely with your computer and the software versions you are using. So you should remember that "don't fix what isn't broken". If you think your printer is working normally, there is probably no need to dig your nose for blood by downloading a new driver. Some years ago, updating the drivers might have been justified, but today the original drivers are of such high quality right from the installation stage that updating should only be done in exceptional cases, if the printer does not work. It is better to use a working driver than the latest driver.
Download the driver from a CD or download from the Internet?
When you have bought a new printer, the box usually includes a CD with driver software. A short answer to the question in the title. You should not download the driver from a CD, as the software may be very old and may still contain errors from the beta phase from the early history of the printer model.
